HTS code
Also: Harmonized Tariff Schedule code · HTSUS number
The 10-digit US import code built on the six-digit HS root; the number CBP uses to assess duty on goods entering the United States.
Definition
An HTS code is the United States' 10-digit import classification. It takes the international six-digit HS root and adds a two-digit subheading and a two-digit statistical suffix.
The HTS is the code that carries the US duty rate. A supplier's six-digit HS code is not enough to determine what you'll pay — the rate lives on the full 10-digit line in the US schedule.
Worked example
HS 8471.30 (portable computers) becomes HTS 8471.30.0100 in the US schedule, where its general duty rate is shown as Free.
